FROM THE EDITOR

This week, your Embedded Technology Journal team is braving the slings and arrows of CES so you don’t have to.  We’re at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and our show-related articles and webcasts will give you some insight into where all our embedded technology eventually goes to die – or to live on indefinitely.  CES is like no other trade show in the world, and we’re happy (and a little frightened) to be here bringing you all the action.

Also this week, we are happy to welcome a new publication to our Journal family.  IC Design and Verification Journal has just launched, and brings you all the latest on ASIC/SoC, and custom IC design, and the electronic design automation (EDA) tools that make it all possible.  If you’re involved in the design of ASICs or custom ICs, you’ll want to check out this new publication.

Thanks for reading! If there's anything we can do to make our publications more useful to you, please let us know at: comments@embeddedtechjournal.com. If you'd rather sound off in public, please post your comments or questions in our new Journal Forums.

Reverse Engineering CES

The Embedded Technology game is one of those rare sports where the grand finale comes right at the beginning of the year.  Like NASCAR, where the premiere event, the Daytona 500, is the first race of the season… OK, sorry.  Really.  We promise to never use another NASCAR analogy again.

Anyway, each January, our electronics season is kicked off with the world’s most spectacular display of the final fruits of our engineering efforts – the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.  With over 140,000 attendees, CES is one of the largest trade shows in the world.  The city of lights welcomes the hordes of CES attendees as guests of the city - by cranking hotel rates through the roof and milking money from the collective corporate expense coffers like there was no tomorrow. [more]
