FROM THE EDITOR

Ever do one of those flip-book animations where the little stick man walks across the page as you thumb through the pages?  It turns out that, if you print off all the press releases from embedded technology companies for this fall, square off the stack, and thumb-drop them onto your desk at about four per second – you can see some interesting industry trends at work.  Of course, if you don’t want to waste all the paper it takes to print out those press releases, you could just read our latest feature article.  We’ve done the thumbing for you.

Thanks for reading! If there's anything we can do to make our publications more useful to you, please let us know at: comments@embeddedtechjournal.com

Fall Fury

Embedded Announcements Galore

Embedded Autumn has blown in with a blast (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, at least) and our collective attention is divided among more bright shiny objects than leaves cascading from the collective trees. Fall’s fury of embedded technology announcements is upon us, and we’re left trying to decide which ones to embrace, which to ignore, and which should cause us to dive for cover. It’s the season of events as well, with more conferences, forums, symposia and shows than anyone could possibly attend. Are your kids back in school? Great! Leave town immediately and spend a few marginal days trying to stay awake while you listen to speakers you can’t quite understand discussing topics bordering on banal through a headache that might possibly be related to the welcome “mixer” from the night before.

One thing is clear, though. Our new [insert catchy techno-trademark here] will speed your time to market, reduce the number of costly debug iterations, improve your system reliability, and slash your BOM costs. Your software will run faster, your batteries will run longer, and your system will be immune to a host of evils, the likes of which you haven’t yet even begun to comprehend. Don’t believe us? Why not ask our well-compensated and supported beta customers? They’ve had it for awhile, they get it, and just listen to them rave about how awesome it is. Luckily, now that our PR group has approved the press release, you can learn about it too, and your embedded design world will never be the same. [more]
