Comsys expands ComMAX reference design platform to include ExpressCard/34 form factor

Complete functional design for multi-standard GPRS/EDGE and Mobile WiMAX card for laptop PC

11 February 2008: Barcelona – Comsys Communication and Signal Processing, a leader in wireless baseband solutions, today announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that it has extended its converged cellular/WiMAX reference design platforms offering to include the ExpressCard/34 PC card format. The platform offers ODMs a rapid route to implementing converged cellular/mobile WiMAX functionality for the new generation of laptop PC equipped with an ExpressCard slot.

ComMAX Reference Design Platforms are built around Comsys’ award-winning ComMAX multimode baseband processors. The ComMAX ExpressCard/34 features the ComMAX™ CM1125 multi-standard baseband processor, along with state-of-the-art third party radio transceivers for both GPRS/EDGE and mobile WiMAX. This form factor reference design enables development teams to utilize the full capabilities of the ComMAX processor in combination with market-leading RF solutions from ComMAX Ecosystem members. This reference design is part of ComMAX range of Reference Design Platforms that are designed to provide OEMs and ODMs with the most rapid development path and a fast time to market.

The ComMAX Ecosystem is a network of companies whose products and systems are compatible with Comsys baseband processors. In addition to the RF transceiver vendors, ecosystem members include leading vendors of components such as: RF, PA, PMIC, memories, application processors and software applications, who are partnering with Comsys to develop broadband solutions.

“Comsys is the first vendor to offer a solution that supports real multimode operation of 2.5G cellular with mobile WiMAX. Our solution is available in a range of reference design platforms that comes with a set of comprehensive package. We are committed to providing our customers with a solution to enable them to achieve a fast time to market with optimized cost and excellent performance.” said Avi Sharon, Product Manager at Comsys.
