sepagoPROFILE pushes the virtualization of user profiles
sepagoPROFILE version for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 +++ Beta version
available for download +++ Extended architecture provides the key to virtualization of user
profiles
One user and a consistently up-to-date profile – this sounds so simple, but in IT it's a
challenge. User profiles in Windows-based computing environments are becoming
increasingly complex while gaining in importance at the same time. Users no longer use just
one device. Instead, they are redirected to suitable computers via a variety of virtualization
techniques. Products, e.g. from Microsoft, Citrix or VMware take care of assigning computing
resources suitable for the users' tasks.
sepago defines the virtualization of user profiles as the de-coupling of the user data from
operating system and application provisioning. This does not depend on the device at which
the user logs in nor on how applications are being provisioned. "Virtualization of user profiles
means that the end user finally gets to enjoy the benefits of the virtualization movement,“
reports Paul Luetke Wissing, CEO of sepago.
sepagoPROFILE 2.0 works on the basis of mandatory profiles. User-specific settings are
imported/exported during logon/logoff in a resource-friendly way: Only the settings carried out
by the user during the current session are actually saved. "This enables sepagoPROFILE to
ensure an extremely fast and efficient provisioning of the individual user data, even under a
multitude of concurrent accesses“, confirms expert Thomas Koetzing. Koetzing is a Microsoft
MVP Terminal Server (Most Valuable Professional), Citrix Technology Professional and
independent IT consultant. Koetzing was one of the first to take a close look at
sepagoPROFILE. Moreover, sepagoPROFILE is the first solution which doesn't just sort out
the alignment of profiles in terminal server farms, but which also takes desktop-provisioned
applications into account.
Key to the future
Cologne/Germany-based sepago GmbH also anticipates a coming paradigm shift in IT with
the solution presented now for the virtualization of user profiles. "In future, users will work less
and less with applications actually installed on their computer, as the administration of such
structures is too cumbersome, too costly, and too inflexible, and no longer meets the growing
security requirements of the enterprise. The key to entry into this future is in the virtual
provisioning of the applications and in the efficient administration and provisioning of the user
profiles which this necessitates“, explains Paul Luetke Wissing, CEO of sepago GmbH.
sepago currently works to extend its technological leadership by including mobile devices into
the management by sepagoPROFILE. This lets heterogeneous environments grow closer
together and makes them easier for the users.
Advantages of sepagoPROFILE at a glance:
- Runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista as well as Windows Server 2Kx
- Reduces login times in Windows environments through optimized user profiles
- Fast and stable user profiles lead to a reduction in administration cost
- Combines the advantages of roaming and mandatory profiles
- Represents a solution both for terminal server and normal clients
