Freescale Launches Embedded Design Challenge for Students and Design Engineers in India

Nationwide Contest to Award Excellence and Innovation in Embedded Designs Based on Freescale’s 8-bit Microcontrollers

BANGALORE, India--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Freescale Semiconductor is offering engineering students and embedded developers in India the opportunity to turn great designs into 8-bit innovations. The embedded design contest, which began August 1, challenges engineers to stretch their imagination and create innovative prototypes using Freescale’s 8-bit HCS08 8/16-pin microcontroller (MCU). To compete in the design challenge, participants must submit their design prototypes complete with schematics and software developed with CodeWarrior™ tools, along with a working, board-level demonstration of the product by October 31, 2007.

The submitted designs will be judged by a panel of industry experts and academicians for creativity, design efficiency, technical complexity, and overall application innovation and usefulness. The first 100 “early bird” registrations will receive awards of appreciation to acknowledge early participation.

The award-winning entries will be announced at the Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) India at Bangalore on November 19-20, 2007. The first-prize winner will receive a four-day all-expenses-paid trip to Malaysia that includes sight-seeing opportunities and a tour of Freescale’s manufacturing facilities in the region. The second-place winner will also have the opportunity to win an exciting prize. The top 25 entries will have a chance to attend FTF Bangalore for a close-up look at the latest technology innovations that Freescale is bringing to market.

The contest underscores Freescale’s commitment to nourishing technical talent in India. Other related initiatives include Freescale’s University Program, which enables students to experience the latest semiconductor design technologies and provides access to Freescale products, architectures and training materials.
