MaxStream Introduces Industry First Long Range Mesh Networking Radios

Mesh Routing Now Available with 900 MHz 1 Watt 9XTend RF Modems

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MaxStream®, a Digi International® brand (NASDAQ:DGII), today announced the addition of mesh networking firmware for the 9XTend™ product family and the introduction of the 9XTend-MESH Development Kit. Mesh networking modes are now supported by the 9XTend product line, allowing OEMs and systems integrators to add sophisticated data routing to new and existing 9XTend networks.

Mesh networking benefits ad-hoc networks by automatically forming dynamic routing configurations and permitting data to hop along intermediate nodes between for data points that are situated beyond point-to-point range. The advanced firmware recognizes when nodes enter (self-discovery) or leave (self-healing) the network and then configure accordingly.

“As the market leader in range, reliability and ease-of-use, the 9XTend with mesh networking gives network designers nearly limitless possibilities when creating wireless networks containing multiple data points,” said Larry Kraft, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Digi International. “The 9XTend-MESH Development Kit is the easiest and most cost-effective way to quickly establish a dependable long-range wireless mesh network. Mesh networking adds to the reliability of the XTend product line by introducing multiple routes and verifying the reception of data.”

Along with the addition of full-featured mesh technology, the 900 MHz 9XTend operates at a full Watt of output power (maximum allowed by the FCC) and yields a point-to-point range of up to 40 miles in line-of-sight conditions with a high-gain antenna. This makes the 9XTend product line the first 900 MHz long-range FHSS mesh networking product available on the market. It also features 256-bit AES encryption and advanced interference immunity that sets the industry standard in security and reliability.

Along with the 9XTend-MESH development kit, embedded OEM RF modules or housed stand-alone radios with several interface options, such as RS-232/485/422, USB or Ethernet are available. The 9XTend with mesh networking is ideal for a wide variety of applications including automated metering infrastructure, fleet management, military applications, electronic signs, industrial controls and sensors.

Starting at $899, the 9XTend-MESH Development Kit contains four 9XTend modules, four interface boards and all the necessary accessories to establish a wireless mesh network in minutes. Existing 9XTend products are now flash upgradeable to the new mesh networking enabled firmware.
