RMI Announces Next Generation Au1250TM Media Processor and Au1210TM Navigation Processor in Full Production

Alchemy Au1210 and Au1250 Power-Optimized Processors in Full Production and Utilized by Industry Leaders Carpoint and Digital Cube
COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2007

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Raza Microelectronics, Inc. (RMI®), a leading supplier of processors for communications and consumer applications, today announced that it’s next-generation products for Multifunction Portable Media Players (mPMP™) and Navigation applications are in full production and are utilized by industry leaders Carpoint and Digital Cube. RMI announced the news at COMPUTEX Taipei 2007 where the company is demonstrating and exhibiting numerous customer and partner applications.

Additionally, the processors are available with production software, including a complete support package and media software, as well as a development platform from RMI. RMI recently made available its WinCE 5.0 Software Release v1.4, adding support for the Au1210 and Au1250 processors and offering new features such as dramatically lower power and extensive USB 2.0 support including, host throughput improvement, isochronous transfer and improved interoperability with Hubs and Flash drives. The software release is available for download to current customers through RMI’s embedded developer’s site at www.razamicroelectronics.com/products.

The DBAu1250 Development Board Kit is also shipping in production from RMI. The Kit includes platform, tools and software to shorten customer application development time for both Au1250- and Au1210-based systems.

“Since the Au1250 announcement with RMI at CES, we have been enthusiastic about our next generation Portable Media and Navigation products based on these new processors,” said Dr. Yeonsik Yu, CEO of Digital Cube, Inc. “The ability to play multiple video formats at D1 resolution with less than 500 mW is enabling technology. At 600MHz, it provides ample processor performance so we can expand the innovative applications and technologies which have propelled Digital Cube to become today’s leader in portable media.”

“The Au1200, and now Au1250 processors, are central to our Multifunction PND strategy,” says Dong-Hoon Park, director of marketing at Carpoint. “The pin-compatible Au1200-Series processors, including the new Au1210 and Au1250 processors, allow us to expand our family of Navigation products based on a single platform design giving us the flexibility to efficiently implement lower cost and higher performance SKUs that our customers demand.”

Au1250

The RMI Alchemy Au1250 Media Processor provides significantly increased performance while improving its power optimized advantages associated with the Alchemy Processor family. The Au1250 provides full D1 (720 x 480) video decode resolution with MPEG 1, 2, 4, wmv9, and Xvid. The elevated application processing performance, with remarkably low power, makes the Au1250 processor ideally suited to the expanding needs of Multifunction Portable Media Players (mPMP). The Au1250 combines increased performance, up to 600 MHz, with power reductions of more than 30% (active power) and 60% (inactive power), compared to existing Au1200-based systems, the current performance per watt leader in the industry.

Users can now enjoy the ability to simultaneously run multiple diverse applications with substantially longer battery life than before. Finally, the new Au1250 supports boot from NAND functionality, eliminating the need for external NOR flash, and is also available in extended temperature versions.

Au1210

The RMI Alchemy Au1210 Navigation Processor is optimized for Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs) and for single-purpose media applications. The Au1210 is both pin-compatible and software-compatible with the Au1200, the current media processing solution from RMI, and the newly announced Au1250. The Au1210 also enjoys similar functionality of the Au12xx Family with different clock rate and video performance operating at frequencies up to 400 MHz and supports video decode up to Wide-CIF (480 x 288) resolution. This targeted functionality enables customers to address cost-sensitive applications such as GPS navigation, where full D1 video resolution is not required. Finally, the new Au1210 supports boot from NAND functionality, eliminating the need for external NOR flash, and is also available in extended temperature versions.

The RMI Alchemy™ Processor Family consists of Media and Navigation SoCs enabling designers to support multiple price-performance points and application requirements. The processor of choice for full-featured PMP, mPMP, Navigation and Mobile TV devices, the Alchemy Processors are made up of high-performance, low-power processors capable of delivering a rich multi-media experience to end users. The Alchemy family of processors gives system designers an easy-to-use, simple solution to create full-featured portable solutions with greatly reduced design cycle times. The System-on-a-Chip (SoC) architecture integrates most peripheral components resulting in a significant reduction in total bill of materials.

Availability and Pricing

The Au1210, a power-optimized SoC operating at 400 MHz supporting video decode up to Wide-CIF, with full D1 video decode resolution, and the Au1250, a low-power SoC operating at up to 600 MHz, targeting mPMP customers are in full volume production. Both products are pin and software-compatible with the existing Au1200. The DBAu1250 Development board is also available now in production. Pricing is available upon request.
