12th Annual Workshop for Women in Design Automation (WWINDA)
to Focus on "Managing Your Career"

IEEE Fellow Dr. Terri Fiez to Keynote Event

BOULDER, Colo. April 9, 2007 The 44th Design Automation Conference (DAC), to be held at the San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, California, June 4 - 8, 2007, today announced the program for the 12th annual Workshop for Women in Design Automation (WWINDA). The half-day workshop focused on "Managing Your Career" will be held on the opening day of the conference, Monday, June 4, and will feature a keynote address from Dr. Terri Fiez, IEEE Fellow and professor of Electrical Engineering at Oregon State University.

Dr. Fiez's keynote will provide the foundation for the program that will also include a panel discussion and the presentation of the Marie R. Pistilli Women in EDA Achievement Award for outstanding contributions towards the advancement of women in electronic design automation. The Workshop will begin with a continental breakfast and end with a luncheon to allow workshop attendees the opportunity to network with other design automation industry professionals.

"Now in its 12th year, the WWINDA program provides an informative venue for women in the industry to gain insights on topics of relevance to their career. We are particularly excited to present this year's program because it will address a broad spectrum of issues that many of us face as we manage our career," said Sabina Burns, WWINDA, Chairperson. "Dr. Fiez and the accomplished panelists each have unique experiences and insights to share with the attendees which should make for an informative and lively workshop."

As part of the "Managing Your Career" topic, the WWINDA 2007 speakers will address such issues as: The First 5 Years - building credibility and respect; Transitions - from individual contributor to manager, from engineer into sales or marketing, from academia to industry; Networking - maintaining an effective network of colleagues; Politics - navigating the political landscape in industry or academia; Balance and Scaling - how to effectively prioritize tasks and delegate work; Mentoring - finding and becoming a mentor; and Leadership - developing skills for heading up teams, projects, and organizations. The keynote speaker and panelists will discuss their own career trajectories and offer suggestions for increased professional success.
