Advantech's New SOM with Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor Expands Advantech's COM-Express Series

Irvine, CA, March 12, 2007 – Advantech, releases its newest System On Module (SOM)—SOM-5782, an embedded PCI Express SOM board powered by the latest Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processors. As well as offering PCI Express x16 support, SOM-5782 provides a special heat spreader solution that reduces thermal design effort. SOM-5782 fits on a baseboard design of the customers' own specific application requirements.

Powerful Graphics and Data Throughput
SOM-5782 expands upon Advantech's existing COM-Express series, in a form factor of 95 mm x 125 mm. SOM-5782 provides a scalable and easy to integrate solution for customers' applications by utilizing a plug-in CPU module on an application-specific solution board. Targeted at System Integrators (SI) who want a modular solution with powerful graphic engine and high data throughput, SOM-5782 takes full advantage of the Intel 945GM chipset. Intel's own Serial Digital Video Out (SDVO) extension makes it possible to use a 16-lane PCI express slot for additional video interfaces such as VGA, dual independent DVI monitor outputs and TV-out.

Thermal Solution and Advanced I/O
SOM-5782 incorporates a special heat spreader design, which provides a flat conductive surface across the board for thermal contact with the customers own heatsink or chassis, without concern for CPU or chipset location, thereby reducing thermal design effort. SOM-5782 also comes with advanced I/O capabilities that include: 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet, 2 x SATA, 1 x EIDE, 8 x USB2.0 ports and High Definition audio. It joins the Advantech SOM product family to offer ODM embedded integrators a wider choice for application-specific solutions that demand high computing speeds and compact modular designs.

The COM-Express series is backwardly compatible with existing hardware and software systems. They are fully scalable for upgrades or changing application needs and feature long life support so important to embedded developers.
