| BusinessWire CSR’s Single-Chip WiFi Device Selected for Accton’s New Wireless VoIP Phones Based on UniVox Design 3GSM World Congress 2007 BARCELONA, Spain & CAMBRIDGE, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CSR (LSE:CSR): * Photo Ref: PEM4754 CSR (LSE: CSR.L) today announced that its single-chip WiFi (802.11b/g) technology, UniFi, has been selected by Taiwan-based communications equipment manufacturer Accton, for its Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) phones. Accton’s VoWiFi phones offer colour screens and are designed for domestic use to connect via an 802.11b/g access point; they are to be demonstrated on CSR’s stand, number 1E51, at the 3GSM Congress in Barcelona, 12-15 February 2007. Accton’s VM8168C phones have been designed around UniVox, CSR’s VoIP phone example design, which uses UniFi, the company’s single-chip WiFi technology. UniVox brings to Accton the benefits of the lowest power embedded WiFi solution in the industry. CSR has designed UniVox to enable manufacturers to produce wireless phones for residential use at the lowest cost and lowest power, with up to 20 hours talk time and 400 hours standby time from typical handset batteries when using the latest generation access points. WiFi Multimedia Power Save (WMM-PS) mode has also been utilised, and when used with a compatible access point, will provide the Accton handsets with advanced power-save mechanisms for extended battery life. UniFi is CSR’s 802.11b/g single-chip WiFi silicon and offers the industry’s lowest power consumption. In addition, UniFi is in a chip scale package that allows a very small footprint of 6x6mm. CSR has also designed its own Multimedia Applications Processor (MAP) into UniVox, combining a low-power Reduced Instruction Set Code (RISC)-based applications processor with high performance DSP function, audio CODECs and echo cancellation; as well as intelligent power management. To ensure high voice quality, UniVox supports 802.11e and Wireless Multimedia Scheduled Access (WMM-SA) to provide optimised and prioritised quality of service (QoS), eliminating potential latency or jitter. UniVox also supports 802.11i to add enhanced levels of security with support for 802.11i, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and WPA2 security standards. Simon Finch, VP WiFi Strategic Business Unit, CSR, commented, “VoWiFi phones such as the new Accton handsets use CSR’s UniFi WiFi technology to deliver the highest performance and functions. We expect such technologies to increasingly replace the residential phones we use today, such as DECT.” Finch continued, “CSR’s UniVox was designed from the ground up with the intention of enabling phone ODMs/OEMs such as Accton to produce high quality, very low cost and low power phones for the mass market.” Ken Lu, President of Accton Technology commented, “As one of the leading providers for WiFi phones, we see a trend for future handsets to be equipped with Bluetooth capability. We believe, with the partnership of CSR, that Accton will extend its product range to provide outstanding products supporting market requirements. CSR’s UniFi WiFi silicon and software has enabled us to produce VoWiFi handsets that offer the highest quality and performance, but at a cost that means our handsets can be attractive to a wide audience.“ Lu continued, “The CSR UniVox example design meant that we have been able to bring these handsets to mass production within a very short space of time.” More information on CSR’s UniVox is available at www.csrvoip.com About CSR CSR is the leading global provider of personal wireless technology and its product portfolio covers Bluetooth, GPS, FM receivers and WiFi (IEEE802.11).
