| BusinessWire Acme Packet to Demonstrate IMS and FMC Solutions at 3GSM World Congress in BarcelonaShowcases Net-Net Session Border Controllers Enabling Secure, Premium-Quality IP Communication Services and Applications for Mobile Operators BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session border control solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate both an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) compliant decomposed session border controller (SBC) and the Net-Net® SBC’s role in a fixed mobile convergence (FMC) solution in the company's booth (#2.1B16 in Hall 2) next week at the 3GSM World Congress 2007. The demonstrations reinforce Acme Packet’s role in delivering critical control functions—security, service reach maximization, service assurance, revenue and profit protection and regulatory compliance—for IP interactive communications over fixed or wireless IP networks. Acme Packet will demonstrate its standards-based decomposed SBC solution, which includes the Net-Net® Session Controller (SC) and Net-Net Border Gateway (BG). The Net-Net SC and BG are ETSI TISPAN and 3GPP IMS compliant and deliver the Interconnect-Border Gateway Function (I-BGF) and Interconnect-Border Control Function (I-BCF) elements for interconnect networks and Proxy-Call Session Control Function (P-CSCF), Core Border Gateway Function (C-BGF) and Service-based Policy Decision Function (SPDF) elements for access networks. This demonstration builds upon the decomposed interconnect solution used at the MultiService Forum’s GMI 2006 interoperability event conducted in October 2006. The Net-Net SC and BG are software configurations that decompose session border control into separate signaling and media control systems for SIP sessions and are supported on both the Net-Net 4000 and 9000 series hardware platforms. They utilize subsets of Acme Packet’s Net-Net OS, a feature-rich software environment deployed today by over 365 service providers on Acme Packet’s integrated SBC, the Net-Net Session Director (SD). “Acme Packet took the lead in defining the role of session border controllers in the IMS functional architecture,” said Seamus Hourihan, Acme Packet vice president of marketing and product management. “Our approach to session border control offers architectural flexibility—a choice between integrated or decomposed SBC solutions for access and interconnect borders—that does not compromise functionality or performance. Our demonstration at the 3GSM World Congress highlights this approach.” Also at the show, Acme Packet will demonstrate its role in enabling BridgePort Networks’ MobileSTICK solution. MobileSTICK enables mobile service providers to offer secure fixed-mobile convergence services to consumers today and enables mobile subscribers to use their PCs for existing mobile voice and messaging services, plus a host of compelling new applications, without adding a new phone number or changing phones. The solution combines a USB key with an embedded SIM card and a softphone client, with a PC using a broadband connection, and BridgePort Networks' NomadicONE Network Convergence Gateway™ and Acme Packet’s Net-Net SBC within the mobile operator's core network to bridge the mobile and broadband networks. The 3GSM World Congress is one of the largest mobile technology exhibitions in the world attracting over 50,000 visitors during the four days and is run, along with partners, by the GSM Association (GSMA). The show runs from February 12–15, 2007 at the Fira de Barcelona, Montjuic in Barcelona, Spain. Acme Packet is an Associate member of the GSMA.
