TimeSys Introduces LinuxLink Subscriptions for Intel Pentium Family of Processors

Continuously Updated Embedded Linux Resource Accelerates Embedded Development

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TimeSys Corporation, the leading service provider to developers in the embedded Linux market, today announced the availability of LinuxLink subscriptions for the Intel Pentium family of processors, sometimes also referred to as the i586 family. This LinuxLink complements the already popular LinuxLink for the Intel Pentium III (i686) family of processors. LinuxLink by TimeSys is the first commercial offering to support the majority of embedded developers who build and assemble their own commercial-grade custom Linux platforms. By delivering on-demand access to continuously updated processor-optimized Linux packages, components and tools, engineers benefit from a rich development environment and community support.

In response to customer demand, the introduction of LinuxLink subscriptions for Pentium- processors and clones now provides a solution for customers creating embedded Linux devices with Pentium-equivalent processors from vendors such as Via and Geode.

TimeSys continues to offer the popular Pentium III (i686-based) LinuxLink that is designed for development using Pentium III generation or newer processors. Desktop Linux distributions have long offered binaries for both i586 and i686 architectures. Now LinuxLink repositories are available for each as well.

The combination of features available exclusively through LinuxLink provides subscribers with ongoing access to the most up-to-date embedded Linux resource throughout every stage of development. Subscribers can choose among multiple LinuxLink subscription options for the level of functionality that matches their needs. Features of the Intel i586 LinuxLink include:

* A special reference distribution that enhances performance and provides an excellent starting point for building a customized distribution
* Access to several different kernel versions, including 2.6.19, which allows developers to take advantage of the latest advances in the Linux community
* Access to a repository of hundreds of source and binary cross-compiled packages
* An Integrated Development Environment (IDE) designed to make embedded Linux development easier
* Testing and profiling tools to streamline development processes
* An online environment that allows development teams to collaboratively design and build their distribution with weekly alerts to notify customers of new content and resources.
* Access through the LinuxLink Developer Network to extensive resources and interactive support from TimeSys and the embedded Linux community

“The availability of a LinuxLink for Pentium I-class processors allows developers to build a custom Linux platform that is tuned to provide the maximum level of performance for this type of processor,” said Joseph Raffa, CEO of TimeSys. “Many embedded developers are finding that processors based on the original Pentium architecture make excellent embedded target platforms from both a price and performance standpoint.”
