| BusinessWire Ubicom Combines CPE Device Management With StreamEngine® Technology to Simplify Broadband Service DeliveryManaged Services and Unmanaged Applications Can Now Coexist on One Network Without Interference LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ubicom®, Inc., a leading provider of communications processor and software solutions, announced today that support for the DSL Forum’s TR-069 CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP) has been added to the StreamEngine 5000™ platform. TR-069, in combination with StreamEngine® technology, ensures that provisioned services such as voice or video are protected against bandwidth-hungry and memory-hungry applications like peer-to-peer file transfers. Other traffic on the home network is automatically classified and prioritized to give an excellent quality of experience for all users. Unlike other approaches that group traffic into a small number of classes, StreamEngine uses Intelligent Stream Handling to track every conversation to the Internet or wireless network. This unique visibility into the core of a home network ensures quality and connection problems can be identified and fixed quickly. “If a consumer runs into any problem on the home network, it is likely to result in an expensive support call,” said Keith Morris, vice president of marketing at Ubicom. “Our technology is a tool that service providers can use to ensure that both managed and unmanaged services will run smoothly. TR-069 is used to control the protection of managed services, while Intelligent Stream Handling protects the quality of unmanaged applications.” Ubicom’s standards-compliant implementation of TR-069 is built from the ground up to work well in an embedded environment with limited memory space. Fully managed products can be built with as little as 2 megabytes of flash memory and 32 megabytes of DRAM. “Ubicom offers devices that have completed several rounds of interoperability testing against Motive’s Home Device Manager software,” said RJ Brideau, vice president of business and channel development for Motive, Inc., a leading provider of broadband management software. “Both Motive and Ubicom have successfully implemented key features of TR-069 that allow us to interoperate with each other today. Service providers can use products based on this platform to more quickly and cost effectively deploy next-generation services.” Pricing and Availability The ipTR069™ device management software module is in beta testing with early access partners. It will be available as an extension to Ubicom’s software development kit (SDK) 7.4 version this quarter. Pricing is available on request. About Ubicom, Inc.
