Mocana Announces Embedded Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) –
a True Asynchronous Product Available Today

Latest EAP Solution Provides Customer New Levels of Security, Flexibility and Scalability

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mocana, a provider of complete open standards-based security solutions that secure next generation networks and services all the way to edge devices, today announced the full availability of the Mocana Embedded Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) solution. This full version of the Mocana Embedded EAP provides a fully RFC compliant solution, allowing peer and authenticator to independently operate with third-party implementations, a necessity for most companies. Mocana Embedded EAP easily works in pass-through mode if there is already an authentication server on-site, or as a stand-alone authenticator if there is none, providing a flexible environment for integration.

EAP is a protocol that acts as a framework and transport for other authentication protocols. EAP uses its own start and end messages, but then carries any number of third-party messages between the supplicant (client requesting network access) and the Network Access Server (NAS).

The Mocana Embedded EAP solution provides an answer for device and appliance manufacturers considering an EAP-based security solution to their existing or new devices. Uniquely architected, Mocana Embedded EAP easily ports and configures to the needs of the organization and can operate in a wide range of environments offering scalability, reliability and ease of use. Unlike some other EAP solutions, Mocana’s Embedded EAP also works with multiple interfaces and is transport agnostic, eliminating the need for costly and time consuming integration work. All things that can save organizations thousands of man hours to create, manage, and staff. Multiple companies have already licensed the Mocana EAP solution and are experiencing these competitive advantages today.

“With this latest version of Mocana Embedded EAP, we can now offer our customers a secure, flexible and scalable EAP solution that can allow device and appliance manufacturers to get to market faster with an open standards-based solution, while freeing up their engineers to focus on other value added development,” said Adrian Turner, President and CEO for Mocana. “We have fully leveraged our unique architecture to ensure that our Embedded EAP solution will serve as the gold standard for use in embedded devices. Our continued confidence in our products allows us to make our source code freely available for evaluation so companies can see the advantages of using Mocana for themselves.”

Mocana Embedded EAP is full featured and RFC compliant supporting 12 different authentication methods including EAP-TLS and EAP-TTLS. Mocana Embedded EAP takes advantage of other Mocana Device Security Framework solutions and can leverage Mocana’s hardware acceleration to deliver optimum performance and scalability. With the ability to operate in stand-alone mode, the Mocana Embedded EAP allows system administrators access to the network even if the RADIUS server goes down.

Mocana Embedded EAP

The Mocana Embedded EAP solution was built from the ground up specifically for embedded systems from mobile handheld devices to datacom equipment. The Mocana EAP solution prevents unauthorized access to network devices, allows for easy security updating and lets organizations independently manage multiple users who require unique security configurations. Highlights include:

Mocana Embedded EAP acts as both a supplicant and an authenticator, simultaneously while some other products require extensive consulting in order to achieve this functionality.
Mocana Embedded EAP is unique in that it is made specifically for embedded devices, supports over 15 operating systems and requires no operating system.
Mocana Embedded EAP has an extremely small footprint and supports 12 different authentication methods.
Mocana Embedded EAP works with the entire Mocana product family, and is available individually or bundled as part of the Mocana Device Security Framework.
