uXcomm Announces XManage 2.0, the Rosetta Stone of Systems Management

uXcomm's Systems Management Platform Empowers Device Manufacturers to Deliver Differentiated Products with Out-of-the-Box Management

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--uXcomm, the leading provider of systems management platforms for device and software system manufacturers, today announced the release of XManage 2.0, the world's first solution to unite disparate systems and systems management applications into one common infrastructure. The new version of XManage empowers systems builders to deliver differentiated, standards-based products that can be easily integrated into heterogeneous data center environments, and seamlessly managed by any system or application.

Typical data centers include hundreds of servers, storage and network solutions from multiple vendors. For years, IT professionals have implemented various applications ranging from enterprise management frameworks to suites to open source products in an attempt to manage these products with little success. With the release of XManage v2, there is now a universal translator or "Rosetta Stone" to unify these technologies and create automated system management processes.

"Systems management applications have always existed as islands of automation, providing limited management in finite moments of time for singular devices rather than ongoing management of the entire data center," said Bob Van Steenberg, CEO of uXcomm. "By providing manufacturers with the glue to connect all existing and evolving standards, devices and management applications together, uXcomm is helping them to solve the holy grail of systems management."

uXcomm's XManage is a proven, modular systems management platform that enables any system builder to quickly and easily deploy "out-of-box" management solutions while still having full customization capability. Based upon XML-driven, service oriented architecture (SOA), XManage comes bundled with all major system management interfaces, an integrated development environment based on Eclipse, and a management services engine that can be quickly customized and extended by systems builders to manage any hardware or software subsystem.

In addition, XManage enables system builders to ensure compatibility of their devices across multiple product lines. For example, a networking company can embed XManage throughout their line of routers and switches to provide a common management interface, and enable each device to be dynamically reconfigured online based on specific network events or changes in security policies.

XManage can be deployed in one of two ways.

1. Universal Management Appliance. A prebuilt, pretested,
standalone management appliance, it includes key features such
as:

-- Standard application services, including device controls,
alerts, monitors and discovery and;

-- Custom application services, which provide interfaces to
commercial and open source management applications and the
ability to develop user-defined procedures based on
specific environments or events.

2. Universal Management Agent. uXcomm agent software can be
embedded on any device on a network, delivering out-of-the-box
connectivity to any systems management application. Key
features include:

-- Client connect services, which provides the means to
access external users or environments via standard and
non-standard methods and;

-- Device integration services, to integrate management
software within the device.

"uXcomm's XManage Universal Management Appliance provides the ideal solution for further differentiating Penguin Computing's high density blade servers, enhancing our ability to deliver easier and more powerful deployment and management of 1,000's of servers from a single, centralized management console," said Bob Monkman, director of software product management, Penguin Computing. "Rather than build a solution from scratch or buy an off-the-shelf generic point solution, uXcomm met our diverse requirements for customization and extensibility within a common, standards-based architecture."

"Data center professionals have traditionally looked to systems management applications to centrally manage servers, storage and networking equipment from multiple vendors based on many different standards and protocols," said George Hamilton, director of enterprise computing and networking at the Yankee Group. "The results have fallen short of expectations. uXcomm's approach now makes systems and network equipment builders responsible and accountable for making their products manageable within any data center environment, which should have a significant impact on the device and systems market."
