Relativity Technologies Delivers Plug-and-Play Modernization Platform

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 2006--Integration with the Standards-Based Modernization Workbench(R) Platform Permits Relativity Technologies' Partners to Offer Complete Solutions for Enterprise Application Modernization

Inefficient and inflexible business processes have compelled Global 2000 organizations to seek more value from their enterprise applications. As a result, the market for Enterprise Application Modernization (EAM) solutions has grown at a stunning rate, leading software and services vendors to seek ways to address this need. But without the ability to leverage the value embedded within these existing enterprise applications, vendors cannot offer their clients a complete EAM solution.

Today Relativity Technologies released a new version of its EAM Framework, allowing partners to integrate their software with the market-leading Modernization Workbench platform. Many of the world's largest technology companies are now leveraging the detailed extracted information contained in the Modernization Workbench's repository to create solutions and practices focused on the EAM market.

"Continuing to extract business value from enterprise applications is a challenge for today's large organizations," said Dale Vecchio, research vice president of Gartner, Inc. "Leading technology and services vendors are offering modernization solutions to address this need. Production legacy applications can continue to provide value to an organization, but require active steps to understand and extend these systems to support new business requirements."

The EAM Framework allows:

-- Software Vendors to Create their own EAM Solutions: Vendors with solutions such as business process management, application modeling, and SOA enablement can leverage the rich application analysis, process models, and other information stored in the Modernization Workbench repository to create EAM offers. For instance, application modeling vendors can access extracted business rule documentation and hierarchies via the EAM Framework's Java API to model the structure of even highly complex enterprise applications.

-- Service Vendors to Leverage Internal Resources: In addition to enabling the EAM practices of the world's largest IT service providers, Relativity Technologies now helps these vendors to extend the value of their existing intellectual property. Partners' internal tools can take advantage of application insights stored in the Modernization Workbench repository to provide more complete EAM services offerings. For example, partners' SOA enablement tools can access information via the EAM Framework about which business processes can be targeted to become services.

-- Broad Environmental Support for EAM Tools: As previously announced, the EAM Framework also allows vendors to extend the model of the Modernization Workbench's repository to support any programming environment. As a result, any language parser can be configured to populate information about an application into the Modernization Workbench. Users can then deploy the Modernization Workbench or integrated partner tools to better understand, manage, modernize, or maintain these applications.

"A proven path to modernized applications is via a standards-compliant approach based on Model Driven Architecture," said Dirk Slama, Chief Strategy Officer with Interactive Objects, a leading provider of application engineering and legacy modernization solutions. "By leveraging extracted information stored in the Modernization Workbench repository, our technology can ensure the modernization of mainframe applications to environments such as Java. The process of connecting our technology to the Modernization Workbench via the EAM Framework made deploying a new EAM offer simple and efficient."

"Deploying an EAM solution requires access to detailed insight into the current application portfolio," said Steve Maysonave, chairman, president, and CEO of Relativity Technologies. "With the launch of the EAM Framework vendors can quickly connect their intellectual property to access rich application analysis, business rule and modeling information, information regarding SOA readiness, and other key insights provided by the Modernization Workbench platform. This capability has led to the creation of an ecosystem of vendors that can now deliver EAM solutions and compelling value to their end-clients."

The EAM Framework is currently available to Relativity Technologies' partners. It is packaged as a Software Development Kit with documentation of the Java APIs and detailed examples to accelerate integration. The connection with the platform via the APIs is straightforward thanks to Relativity Technologies' commitment to open OMG (Object Management Group) standards such as KDM and ASTM.
