Arcwave Adds Management Capabilities Giving Cable Operators Greater Ability to Deliver Commercial-Grade Services to SMBs LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2006-- Arcwave, Inc., a provider of wireless solutions for the cable industry, today announced a series of enhancements to the company's flagship ARCXtend HSD(TM) product that enable cable operators to more efficiently manage their wireless plant extension (WPE) deployments serving commercial customers. The enhancements, which build upon Arcwave's extensive experience through its more than 600 commercial customer deployments with 14 of the top 15 cable system operators, update Arcwave's ARCSmart(TM) intelligent network management engine and are immediately available to ARCXtend HSD customers. The new ARCSmart features provide cable operators with greater control over their ARCXtend HSD hub deployments and they include: -- A multi-homed interface for the strand mounted ARCXtend HSD hub that supports a private IP Address for the embedded cable modem and a public IP Address for the hub management functions. This enables MSOs to maintain network security while remotely managing their hub. -- The ability to send system alarm messages to up to five destinations, such as local and national network operations centers (NOCs), technical support, etc. This feature provides MSOs with a more advanced ability to troubleshoot network issues. -- The addition of user-defined contact and location information in system alarm messages, providing MSOs with the ability to pinpoint a specific location where an issue has occurred and to immediately identify the appropriate personnel to remedy the issue. -- The ability to remotely reset hub hardware and software, eliminating the need for costly on-site repairs in the unlikely event of a fault. -- The addition of both HRC (Harmonically Related Carrier) and EIA (Electronics Industry Association) standards compatibility for channel support. Since most leading cable operators use either of these two standards, this new compatibility eliminates the need to custom order and stock separate hub types based on which standard is used. ARCSmart is a fully programmable, remotely managed engine with an intelligent management capability that dynamically optimizes broadband traffic performance based on changing network traffic conditions. It combines an embedded DOCSIS 2.0 compliant cable modem, SNMP MIB (management information base), and an HTTP-based user interface to support trouble-free installation, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting of an ARCXtend HSD WPE deployment. ARCXtend HSD enables cable operators to leverage their extensive fiber networks and advanced IP service capability to target a large portion of the domestic SMB high-speed data market, estimated at more than eight million businesses, that has been previously unreachable due to cost, regulatory or deployment delay considerations. While approximately 90 percent of the $82 billion SMB market for voice and data services is within close proximity to existing cable networks, an estimated 50 percent of the SMB market is currently not serviceable by cable operators due to zoning restrictions, "right of way" challenges and the expense of laying new fiber or coaxial cable in commercial areas. Offering a convenient "plug and play" deployment, ARCXtend HSD seamlessly integrates into a cable operator's network and operating infrastructure, creating a wireless bridge for the transmission of the cable industry's DOCSIS standard signals between the wired network and one or more customer sites at speeds significantly faster than DSL. "These new management features for our ARCXtend HSD product demonstrate Arcwave's leadership position in the wireless plant extension market and our commitment to continue providing the most effective products that enable cable operators to leverage existing physical plant and network operations to provide service to a new market of previously unreachable commercial customers," said Chris Martin, vice president of marketing for Arcwave. "As this market continues to grow, we expect to develop further enhancements to our product line that meet the specific needs of cable operators."
