Microtune at Cable-Tec: Silicon Tuner Technology Fuels Cable's Worldwide Evolution to All-Digital Networks

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2006--During the Cable-Tec 2006 Expo this week, Microtune(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:TUNE) will showcase advanced radio frequency (RF) products that enable cable operators to streamline the migration to all-digital distribution systems and enhanced digital consumer services. Microtune technology, when integrated into consumer cable devices, enables operators to reclaim bandwidth capacity for more highly integrated, interactive and converged services, including new high-definition programs, higher-speed data, video telephony, new on-demand options, video-over-IP and future connected-home solutions.

Booth to Showcase Variety of Cable Access Products

Microtune's products, which include tuners, upconverters and amplifiers, will be on display and demonstrated during Cable-Tec in Microtune's booth (Number 920), June 21-23, at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver, CO. In the booth, a range of Microtune's RF solutions will be featured for consumer premise equipment (for both U.S. and international markets), as well as deployed in the end-products of industry-leading customers. Included will be:

-- Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and embedded multimedia terminal adapters (EMTA) telephony modems

-- Multi-tuner high definition/personal video recorder (PVR) set-top boxes for U.S., Europe and Asia

-- Very low-cost DVB-C and DVB-T set-top boxes

-- PC/TV cards for transforming PCs into TV receivers

-- New mobile TV phone based on the DVB-H standard

-- MicroTuner(TM) MT2121, 2131 and 2060 tuners, Evaluation Boards and Reference Designs

-- VideoCaster(TM) upconverter chipset and four-port upconverter module.

As system building blocks, Microtune's RF solutions are engineered to help secure the all-digital future by offering:

-- Support for All-Digital and Hybrid Systems

Microtune's high-performance silicon tuners enable both analog
and digital modes in a single device. When integrated into
set-top boxes or residential gateways, the MT21XX-series
tuners simultaneously support legacy analog cable systems,
hybrid systems, or all-digital communications networks,
including Advanced Set-top Gateways (ADSG) and OpenCable(TM)
Application Platforms (OCAP).

Designed to deliver best-in-class video quality, the
MT21XX-series enables compelling digital home entertainment
services, including HDTV content and multi-room digital video
recording capability. These services permit cable operators to
generate revenue from today's 'triple play' of video, voice
and data.

-- More Network Capacity to Handle Bandwidth-Intensive Services

Microtune offers silicon tuners that enable higher-capacity
cable systems. When integrated into set-top boxes or home
gateways, the MT2121 family of single-chip tuners supports the
continuing expansion of cable systems to 1GHz+ networks,
permitting the delivery of bandwidth-intensive multimedia,
such as more high-definition content, anything-on-demand
services and video telephony. With Microtune tuners,
manufacturers can design advanced set-top boxes that
cost-effectively scale with a cable systems' service and
performance requirements.

-- Low-Power RF Solutions for Power-Sensitive Services

Microtune offers very low-power silicon tuners (MT206X series)
targeted for DOCSIS(TM)-based VoIP telephony modems and
PacketCable(TM)-based EMTAs, including new multi-tuner,
high-speed platforms that are precursors to the capabilities
envisioned in DOCSIS 3.0. With a power draw of one watt or
less, Microtune's low power tuners extend the battery back-up
time in cable equipment.

-- Support for Industry-Wide Reception Specifications

Microtune products are engineered to meet global cable and
off-air reception standards, including the RF industry
specifications for DOCSIS, EuroDOCSIS, OpenCable and
PacketCable, as evidenced by the Company's successful history
of enabling market-proven and certifiable products. Of equal
importance, Microtune technology is engineered to work
reliably in real-world cable environments, which often
requires performance more robust than that called for by
industry standards.

-- Innovation at the Consumer Premises Equipment (CPE) Level

Microtune's small silicon tuner footprint enables
manufacturers of consumer devices to compete, innovate and
react to consumer demand. It makes possible multi-functional
set-top box architectures, featuring multiple tuners that are
required for complete home media servers. These consumer
appliances serve not only as the 'gateway' for receiving
content, but also for distributing it (including
high-definition video, still images and music) throughout the
home, and in the future, for connecting content to fixed or
portable devices inside the home. As the RF technology core, a
MT21XX/MT206X tuner array enables the delivery of all-in-one
entertainment and communications in a compact, cost-efficient
platform.
