BroadLight Announces the High Performance BL2340 System-on-Chip for GPON ONT; BroadLight's End-to-End (E2E) GPON Product Line Now Targets Multi-Dwelling and Tenant ONT Applications With Gigabit Wirespeed Throughput

Supercomm

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2006--After securing 25 design wins for its first generation E2E GPON products, BroadLight, Inc., today announced the BL2340 GPON ONT solution targeting the high-performance multi-dwelling unit (MDU) and multi-tenant unit (MTU) applications. The BL2340 is sampling today and is the first chip to offer the sustained packet performance necessary to support multiple IPTV & HDTV streams and high-speed Internet access by multiple subscribers, from a single ONT.

"Once again, BroadLight has demonstrated flawless product execution by delivering yet another GPON product before most competitors delivered their first," said Andrew Vought, CEO of BroadLight. "This ability to meet demand has put us in the lead position for GPON design wins with our first product release and we anticipate the same level of success with the BL2340."

"The MDU and MTU is the first market for GPON in Asia and Europe," added Didi Ivancovsky, VP Marketing. "Leveraging off the success of the BL2338 for the Single Family Unit (SFU) market, we were able to optimize the design and allow our customers to develop MDU and MTU solutions with the same software platform."

"The ability to deliver simultaneous sustained bandwidth to multiple subscribers that can scale easily over time is absolutely critical for service providers as they roll out IPTV and triple-play services to their MTU and MDU-based customers," said Jeff Heynen, Directing Analyst of Broadband and IPTV for Infonetics Research. "BroadLight's BL2340 GPON ONT on a chip delivers a comprehensive package that equipment manufacturers need to successfully address the burgeoning GPON MTU and MDU markets in Asia and Europe."

About the BL2340

The BL2340 is the second member in BroadLight's BL2000 Family of ONT SoCs and is part of the E2E GPON solution that sampled in December 2005. E2E GPON includes the BL2338 and BL2340 GPON ONT System-on-Chip (SoC); PONmaker OLT and ONU software suites; and the BL3000 OLT MAC. Delivering unprecedented performance and integration, BroadLight's E2E GPON provides customers with a low-cost and low-risk solution that significantly speeds their time to market with ITU-T G.984-compliant GPON equipment.

The BL2340 is based on the proven BL2000 architecture and features a separate control plane and data plane with its embedded 'Runner' PON processor. As a result, the BL2340 can bridge full duplex wirespeed Gigabit Ethernet services onto GPON with the flexibility to control the services based on Class of Service (CoS) levels. Equipment vendors developing ONT solutions with the BL2000 Family can quickly and at low-risk design multiple ONT types using the same PONmaker software.

About BroadLight, Inc.

BroadLight delivers the industry's only end-to-end solution (from the customer premises to the central office) for equipment vendors designing ITU-T compliant passive optical network (PON) systems. The company's completely integrated product line consists of standards-based communication semiconductors and software solutions that enable its customers to deliver BPON and GPON equipment to carriers and services providers worldwide. This end-to-end solution provides customers with a lower risk development cycle and enables them to significantly speed time-to-market. As a result, BroadLight technology has been adopted by leading manufacturers who are currently providing equipment for the some of the world's largest fiber PON roll-outs.
