Pulse Introduces SMART Series of xDSL Integrated Splitter/Filter Modules; Fully Tested Electrical Modules Meet All International Standards for Worldwide Applications SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2006--Pulse, a Technitrol Company (NYSE:TNL), one of the world's largest electronic component manufacturers, introduces a series of 16 Scalable Modular And Robust Technology (SMART(TM)) xDSL integrated low-pass splitter/filter modules. Pulse's modules are used in telco central offices to achieve excellent voice quality by separating voice and data signals and filtering interference out of the data signals in xDSL applications. These fully tested filters are complete, ready-to-use electrical modules, so system integrators need only supply the mechanical functions to the splitter board. These patent-pending modules provide broadband equipment vendors with a convenient and cost-effective splitter solution to meet fast-changing customer and technology demands. "Because they integrate up to 15 inductors, capacitors and resistors into a fully tested, compact, through-hole package, the Pulse filter/splitter modules save the considerable time and expense of building filters from scratch," said Philippe Duchatel, senior product manager for Pulse's Telecom Group. "Pulse has been a leader in the design and manufacture of splitter/filter modules. We defined the footprint that is now being used as the standard in the industry." Pulse's splitter/filter modules meet the full range of ANSI, ETSI, and ITU standards for ADSL and ADSL2+, thus covering all xDSL applications worldwide. Some VDSL2 compatible modules are already available. Some Pulse models have additional features such as a signature circuit, used in the United States to automatically detect the presence of a splitter on the line. An embedded signature circuit makes this operation possible; otherwise it has to be done manually. Models including protection devices to meet K20 or K45 enhanced are also available for over-voltage and over-current protection. Pulse's SMART series of splitter/filter modules are pin-to-pin compatible so that the same board layout can accommodate different standards for different countries by just changing the component. Compact designs allow high integration (number of lines per board). The SMART modules support plain old telephone service (POTS), integrated services digital network (ISDN), and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) installations. They can be used in central office (CO) applications as single-line low-pass filter solutions mounted on the digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM), multi-service access node (MSAN) splitter board, or main distribution frame (MDF). They can also be used in customer premises equipment (CPE) applications enabling the low-pass filter function to be embedded inside the modem or home gateway. Splitter/filter modules are available in trays. Pricing begins at $3.50 per module and ranges in price depending on order configuration, destination, and particular filter.
