Hisense Designs Genesis Microchip's Video Controllers into LCD and CRT Televisions in China; Two-Chip Combination with Faroudja Video Processing Enables Cinema Quality Images and Picture-in-Picture Functionality

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 25, 2005--Genesis(R) Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel monitors, TVs and other consumer display products, today announced that Hisense Co., Ltd., a leading TV manufacturer in China, has designed multiple video controllers from Genesis into its newest LCD and CRT televisions. Available in China, the new Hisense 32-inch, 37-inch and 42-inch LCD TV platforms leverage the combination of Genesis's FLI8532 (Cortez) and FLI8125 (Hudson) controllers. Its new 29-inch, 32-inch and 34-inch CRT TV platforms utilize the FLI8120, a Hudson derivative, combined with the FLI2300 controller, known for its long-standing benchmark in video quality. These new TVs all leverage the Faroudja(R) brand in their products.

"Genesis Microchip continues to set the standard in video processing quality," said Wang Jun-Chang, Hisense CTO and vice president, R&D. "That's why for both our LCD TV and CRT TV platforms, we have chosen the only video controller supplier whose technology has won three Emmy awards."

"China is a rapidly expanding market and Hisense is a key contributor to the overall growth of the consumer electronics industry there," said Raphael Mehrbians, Genesis Microchip's senior vice president of Product Marketing. "We are very pleased to have been chosen as their video processing controller supplier to provide visibly better image quality on their television displays, regardless of platform."

The FLI8532 is a highly integrated, single-chip television solution for flat-panel televisions. It features Faroudja Emmy award-winning, advanced video decoding, directional correlational deinterlacing (DCDi) and video enhancement technologies, whose inclusion is represented by the Faroudja DCDi Cinema(TM) brand. An integrated multi-standard 3-D video decoder provides support for NTSC, PAL and SECAM standards and the integrated VBI (Vertical Blanking Interval) processor supports Teletext, Closed Captioning, V-chip and other VBI services. The FLI8125/8120 is a cost-effective, highly integrated, mixed-signal solution for TV and digital video applications. It incorporates a suite of technologies known under the Faroudja DCDi Edge(TM) brand, including Faroudja proprietary memory-less directional correlational deinterlacing to eliminate jagged edges in video. Both controllers feature proprietary technologies to improve the performance of Liquid Crystal Displays for television applications including LCD Overdrive technology to reduce motion smearing artifacts and an Active Color Management(TM) system to improve the dynamic color range. An embedded microcontroller and versatile On-Screen-Display (OSD) facilitate rapid product design of a global television chassis.
