Freescale Leverages CodeWarrior(TM) for Developer Success and Differentiating Silicon Enablement; New Name and Mission for Metrowerks

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2005--Freescale Semiconductor's (NYSE:FSL) (NYSE:FSL.B) former Metrowerks subsidiary has been fully integrated within the company and renamed Freescale's Developer Technology Organization.

The organization's leadership and expertise now will strategically focus on creating Freescale-optimized CodeWarrior(TM) hardware and software development technologies. It also will contribute proactively to a robust third-party Freescale ecosystem and establish a common Freescale Linux(R) OS support infrastructure.

The Developer Technology Organization is now a part of Freescale's Technology Solutions Organization and closely aligned with the company's silicon design tools, methodologies and flows, libraries, memories and design IP collateral development teams.

"By incorporating Metrowerks' world-class talent and award-winning CodeWarrior(TM) products into the Technology Solutions Organization, we are establishing a powerful, centralized team dedicated to helping our customers rapidly exploit and leverage the performance of Freescale embedded products," said Freescale's Chief Technology Officer Dr. Claudine Simson. "This will provide Freescale with a differentiating competitive advantage and enhance our reputation as a customer-focused organization."

"Higher customer performance requirements are leading to dramatically more complex silicon designs and an explosion in the proliferation of silicon variants," said Venture Development Corporation's Embedded Software Group Director Chris Lanfear. "To win in this environment, semiconductor companies need to supply their customers with silicon-aware tools that help them extract the advanced capabilities of today's processor designs. By leveraging the embedded development expertise and technology of the former Metrowerks subsidiary, Freescale is helping its customers better harness and utilize the performance of Freescale silicon."

Over the past year, the Developer Technology Organization has streamlined its business lines and reorganized to provide better support for Freescale's products and business groups. Today, the group is a software and silicon enablement team fully focused on providing the necessary tools and support to developers for the evaluation, optimization, integration and deployment of Freescale silicon products. Primary offerings include CodeWarrior(TM) development environments, evaluation boards, compilers, debuggers, analysis and simulation tools, silicon bring-up technology and Linux OS support packages.
