CPU TECH to Modernize and Upgrade F/A-18 Mission Computer; Deployed Across Many Airborne Platforms, the AN/AYK-14 Mission Computer Will Be Modernized to Support New Performance and Growth Capability Requirements

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2005--CPU Technology, Inc.(R), (CPU TECH) an innovator in high performance, System-on-Chip based electronic computing system solutions today announced that it has been awarded a contract to develop a modernized architecture for the AN/AYK-14 Mission Computer. The AN/AYK-14 is designated as a Navy Standard Airborne Computer used for mission computing, navigation, targeting, and onboard data processing across many airborne platforms.

CPU TECH's modernized architecture will accommodate the legacy functions of the existing system while providing additional performance and headroom capacity. Such enhancements are incorporated to support future capability requirements for platforms that use the AN/AYK-14. The unique backward compatible functionality offered through CPU TECH's design approach eliminates traditional modernization costs associated with re-writing existing system software and operational flight programs.

In production since 1976, nearly ten thousand AN/AYK-14 Mission Computers have been deployed across many airborne platforms including the AV-8B, E-2C, EA-6B, EP-3E, F-14D, and F/A-18 aircraft, the SH-60B Helicopter, and the AN/SPN-46 Automatic Carrier Landing System.

The scope of the development contract includes delivery of a fully functional prototype of the updated AN/AYK-14, incorporating all existing functionality with additional performance capacity for added features and capability. Funding for the program includes a plus-up appropriation coordinated through California's eleventh district office of Congressman Richard Pombo.

CPU TECH System-on Chip based solutions are being used in many platforms across several branches of service including the U.S. Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle, and the U.S. NAVY STANDARD Missile platform. The company has also developed RADAR processing solutions based on its System-on-Chip technology for the U.S. Air Force F-16 platform which is currently undergoing flight readiness testing at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah.
